Hi folks,

http://www.meetup.com/BayLISA/events/42858762/

tl;dr: Meeting Thursday at Nexenta, space is limited, we're not going
to be at LinkedIn this month, and there should be some fun and useful
info you can take home and work with in your home lab or VM lab.

More detail:

Based on a suggestion after last month's meeting, we've enlisted Derek
Glover and Bill Taroli to talk about some interesting experiences
they've had building and tweaking home/lab/small office NAS devices.
Derek, formerly known as @chirpah of Infrant/Netgear ReadyNAS fame, is
now "Galactic head of technical marketing" at Nexenta. There's a
chance of another special guest, someone you might not think of in
terms of sub-million-dollar storage environments... but if he can make
it you'll get another perspective on affordable NAS storage as well.

We're meeting at Nexenta's HQ in Santa Clara. There is limited space,
so please RSVP at the Meetup location above. We'll be poking the RSVP
list Tuesday or Wednesday, so don't fret if you get onto the automatic
waitlist at Meetup. And if you show up at LinkedIn this month, you'll
probably be disappointed.

Next month:

November's meeting will feature Mostafa Khalil of VMware talking about
storage features in vSphere 5.1. Mostafa has been supporting VMware
since "VMware for Linux 1.0" (which became VMware Workstation 1.0).

We'll also be holding our annual BayLISA Board elections. If you're a
paying member of BayLISA you're eligible to vote for new and
continuing directors. If you would like to join BayLISA in advance of
the election, bring $45 and look for any member of the board at either
October's or November's meeting (our online signup form is currently
broken).

If you'd like to become a member of the board, please get in touch
with me so we can discuss what's involved in being a board member,
make sure you're up for the modest challenge, and get your name on the
ballots in time.

December Short-But-Cool:

We're looking for people willing to give a 10-15 minute talk on
something of interest to sysadmins. There's room for 5-8 talks
depending on topic balance... drop me a note if you'd like to sign up.

And as always, constructive suggestions are always welcome.

Thanks,
Robert Novak
BayLISA President
