If you need to capture these conversations for compliance purposes
and/or are so paranoid you don't want the conversations to leave the
office then Jabber is the right solution. Sorry, I do not know what
Jabber server we use. I do know that the jabber.org and Exodus clients
are used. Another solution is to install an encryption tool on each
client system. One can listen in on most, if not all, flavors of
instant messaging because they are typically sent in clear text. To
encrypt the packets my friends and I use SimpLite. It is a local socks
proxy which manages private and public keys. By using an encryption
tool I can use the same IM client, stay connected to my existing network
of friends, and speak securely with those who install the same
encryption tool.
