EIA RS-232-C certainly _does_ include the physical connector spec, 
including which ones are male (pins) and all that.  I know.  I saw a copy, 
admittedly a long time ago.  My employer had "the blue book", a bound 
volume with many such standards in it.

I'll bet a library (remember those?) would have this, too.  ITU has started 
letting people get 3 documents for free (www.itu.int), but I'm not sure 
about EIA/TIA/whatever.
