Hi my name is Shane Reed and I'm a long time Unix/Linux techie who has 
been to LISA conferences and Bay LISA meetings in the past.  I am now in 
a very technical hands on manager position and am growing my team by one 
more position.  I work for Whitehat Security and we are experiencing 
amazing growth and are ramping up in most areas. The web application 
field is booming and it's a great time to be here.  Our IT team gets 
awesome recognition for the solid work we do in helping the company run 
our Saas product.

In the past I have worked for some historically great IT teams at 
Synopsys and Brocade under some great managers and mentors so even 
though Whitehat is still fairly small we think and build our systems 
like a much more mature company .  Right now I am looking for a Linux 
Systems Admin who may also be strong in Network Administration.  The job

*Responsibilities:*

  * Installation, configuration, and debugging for Dev/QA/Production
    Linux systems
  * Basic network admin including routing configuration, network
    performance troubleshooting, and DNS maintenance.
  * Experience with or knowledge of following technologies:
      o Securing, managing, and monitoring servers using config
        management tools and snmp
      o Patch management for Linux, VMware, and hardware
      o Using shell scripts or other tools to automate tasks
      o VMWare administration
      o Managing support incidents with hardware and software vendors
      o Troubleshooting complex interoperability and system networking
        problems

  * Proactively troubleshoot complex problems that may have high impact
    and wide scope.
  * Aggressively tackle fixing the issues you find.
  * Provide recommendations and implementation of system capacity
    expansion and upgrade under the direction of management to support
    business growth. Propose solutions for appropriate technologies,
    prototype these solutions and show these benefits to customers.
  * Participate in meetings in response to internal service requests and
    using these to create unity between different departments that will
    help solve problems and make everyone more productive and help to
    increase job satisfaction.
  * Provide leadership in initiatives for technology design,
    engineering, support, and maintenance activities.

*Qualifications:*

  * 3-5+ years of experience with Redhat Linux/Debian/Ubuntu
  * Experience configuring and trouble-shooting infrastructure
    appliances in a production environment.
  * A broad conceptual and hands on knowledge of networking protocols
    and overall communication of devices.
  * Knowledge of Internet protocols, including HTTP(S), FTP, NTP, SSL,
    DNS, DHCP, and SNMP.
  * Knowledge of production monitoring tools.
  * 2+ years of PERL scripting
  * Knowledge of enterprise network infrastructure, including WAN, LAN
    architecture required.
  * Understanding 24x7 operation requirements and experience in a
    process oriented working environment.
  * Experience with Puppet, CFEngine, PXE/Kickstart, iSCSI, SAN, and
    Nagios, is a plus.

The candidate must be:

  * Motivated to explore new technologies and be able to apply them to
    business problems.
  * Able to adapt to rapid change and have excellent communication
    skills (verbal and written).
  * Self-motivated and able to function in a dynamic team environment.
  * Experienced with working in a production 24x7 environment.
  * Have advanced problem-solving skills to research, analyze and
    integrate knowledge.
  * Proven ability to logically organize information,  and/or online
    learning/Documentation systems.
